I grew up in very tough times; my country was just recovering from very bad governance. My family in particular had been in circles of power in two previous regimes. In Africa and maybe other countries, many strive hard to be in positions of power or governance. No one has ever been honest enough to come out open and tell the world of how rough and evil an experience it is. But you, my dearest reader, count yourself lucky to be reading this.
First forward to present day. Today Uganda and many other countries in East and Central Africa are struggling under a weight of tough economical times. While in the Northern African states, there’s been the famous popular uprisings or in short, people getting really tired of their leaders who have over stayed in power and even worse, are not showing any signs of living. The funniest part of these stories about the popular uprisings is how these countries in all previous elections their leaders always won with landslide victories!! I wonder about all those reports filed by UN election observers whether they had any truth in them as they always like the phrase “Elections were free and fair”!
In the far West, America is struggling under the dangerously heavy weight of the “debt ceiling”. In Europe, the metropolitan police in the UK is advising “law abiding citizens” to report immediately to the authorities anyone with anti-government beliefs as a terrorist! This comes after the country is organizing demonstrations related to declining standards of living and high unemployment rates. The Middle East has always been a blood bath but this time, governments in this part of the planet have proved to the world of their high decrees of madness when they decided to permanently silence the “so demanding Syrians” with tank shells and bullets!!! Israel, in this very location has also thrown to the streets complaining about “high housing costs”, it must be remembered the merit Israel has acquired when it comes to violation of human rights and kicking dirt in the eyes of the mighty UN security council. We are keeping our fingers crossed.
Gone are days when the power business belonged to a qualified group of states men and women and the being rich business to the work man, you know, Industries, Markets etc. Social development have so much evolved that not only do the rich in our societies become richer, but also very politically powerful. Now when things get to this point, wealth division becomes a big problem among citizens from lower economical classes of society. Governments become puppets to the rich in society and what normally follows under these circumstances are biased policies favoring a group of people who only form a very small percentage of our populations yet so powerful. Take the US as a model, the Obama administration underestimated the powers of Wall Street. They came with promises of job creation and cutting down on taxes that were burdening many Americans, but either were fooled or simply failed to know or identify who really held that option. Today whatever decision being made in settling the “debt ceiling” and clearing the path to next elections, Wall Street and other wealth giants of the West are put in consideration rather than crowds of protestors on the Streets of New York! In fact, let’s put it this way. Leadership is no longer a service to the people but slavery to the selfishly rich and powerful!!!!
Like Obama, Museveni, Mugabe, many climb that ladder of leadership with good intentions of serving humanity but are captured, blind fold and muzzled by these invincible slave masters in our societies. By the time they’ve been totally disgraced, they are thrown away as useless corpses who need to be buried very deep in the ground to avoid their stink. But as civilized beings, let’s remember good leaders for the wonderful visions they once had than the monsters they’ve been made to become.
Brilliant...!
